Madeline McSwain visits Cooran State School

Madeline McSwain – Archer visits Cooran State School   Friday 3 March 2017
On Friday 3rd March Cooran State School had a guest attend our school who is a bit of a straight shooter.  In fact such a straight shooter that she is currently ranked #1 in Australia in the open women’s category for archery and at 14 was the youngest archer in history to win the Australian Open Women’s Championship. Madeline (Maddy) McSwain is her name and she is only 16 years old.
Madeline gave an inspiring talk to our students about archery and what it has done for her academically, telling us about some of her adventures and where archery has taken her. The children were in awe of such and amazing young lady and what she has achieved at such a young age. Maddy then gave an amazing demonstration of precision in archery, which amazed the children even more.
Maddy and her father came up from Melbourne to compete in the Australian Open. Maddy won gold in the team event and bronze in the individual event. She was also selected to represent Australia in the first round of World cup in Shanghi China.
School Captain Fred Back said “Meeting Madeline McSwain was amazing. I loved how inspiring she was and how she wanted to achieve her dream (archery) so much, that she did.  She proves that you can follow your dreams and achieve them. She was so kind, she stayed longer to sign people’s hats and notepads. I wish her well in all future events”.
Madeline is quoted from her Facebook page Madeline McSwain – Archer  saying. “Today I had the amazing honour of starting the Cooran State School Archery program.  There were about 150 students from prep to grade 6 participating in this talk and introduction to Archery.  It involved about 45mins of talks and question time, then a seminar on shooting. I’m so amazed on how positive and appreciative these students were and so well interested in our sport.  A truly magnificent day. Thank you so much to Cooran State School and their amazing Students.”
